What Regular Maintenance Should Be Done on an Air Conditioner?
Air filters should be replaced or cleaned every one to three months depending on usage and environment, and most homeowners can do this themselves between professional visits. We routinely inspect the refrigerant lines connecting your AC’s evaporator to the outdoor condenser to confirm insulation is intact and check refrigerant levels to verify the system is cooling as it should. We can repair any leaks we find. If your unit still uses R-410A refrigerant, existing systems aren’t required to be replaced or retrofitted. R-410A remains legal for servicing equipment already in the field. When the time comes to replace your system, we can help you transition to a current low-GWP refrigerant option. We also clear the outdoor condenser of any leaves, debris, or obstructions on every visit, leaving the unit ready to run at full efficiency.
Do Air Conditioners Need to Be Recharged?
Under normal operating conditions, an air conditioning system shouldn’t need frequent refrigerant recharges. These systems are designed to work with a consistent refrigerant level, and that level doesn’t deplete through regular use the way fuel does in a vehicle.
When a system does need a recharge, it almost always means there’s a leak somewhere, not that the refrigerant was simply consumed. Refrigerant leaks reduce cooling efficiency, can harm the environment, and may pose health risks, so the right response is a professional inspection rather than topping off the charge and moving on.
